Modern Mrs. Darcy recently posted about “what’s saving my life right now” during the second half of the long, dreary winter.
In her words:
“To beat back the gloom, today we’re sharing the things—big or small—that are saving us right now.”
Fun – and I need a reminder of what’s working in my life. Things have been TOUGH since Josiah’s homecoming. I’m grasping most days.
Thankfully, it’s been pretty nice out for the last couple of weeks here. When it isn’t raining, it’s sunny and nearly 50F. I’ve been spending time outside every day taking walks and watching my kids play, which has done wonders for my mood. A few more things I’m loving lately:
Art sets for the littles
I paid $6.99 for these at ALDI. I bought 3 of them and they buy me at least 2 hours a DAY of happy 2 and 4 year olds. What I love about these is how there is a tiny little slot for everything, so most of the time, the girls put everything back where it goes.
My rebounder
I also got this at ALDI, and I have used it almost every single day since (the only days I didn’t were rough ones with the baby). Rebounding has to be one of the most perfect exercises for a mom: it requires no equipment or special clothing, and can be done in any weather and in small increments throughout the day.
Going outside every day
Sunshine and a little warmth in the middle of winter is a TRUE blessing.
Facial cleansing towelettes
Seriously. I just got a new pack from Grove. I order from these guys every single month. If it weren’t for these, my face would be eternally nasty.
I got some of the vanilla lavender and kept it at my preemie’s bedside in the NICU. It was amazing for keeping my hands soft despite the surgery-ready scrub routine. I use it now to slather on my babies after their baths. Like their mama, they like their bath *hot*, and this stuff is amazing for preventing dry skin.
Sunrider Prime Again
I have been using Sunrider products for 12+ years, and I always come back to them when I’m feeling physically and/or emotionally poor. This one is helping me have energy, stay regular, and the fennel in it even boosts milk supply. I have even dropped some more pregnancy weight on it. I don’t sell the product line (it’s a network marketing company and that ain’t my thang), I just like ths stuff.
(you can get it on Amazon too)
** Breakfast in bed **
Last but definitely not least… my husband brings me breakfast in bed along with hot tea every morning. This habit started when I was on bed rest with my high-risk pregnancy and continued after my preemie was born and I was up every 3 hours pumping.
Now the baby is home I’m still not getting much sleep, so he has kept up this sweet little expression of love. I wake up in the morning starving from so much interrupted sleep and breastfeeding in the night so I truly appreciate it!
What are you loving lately?

I hear you on the art sets. I feel the same way about my girls’ new gellyroll pens. I thought they were expensive, but man oh man have they been worth every penny because they keep my daughters entertained for HOURS. Love the sound of the rebounder and the sunshine. Need to order some of those towelettes.

I haven’t commented before, but I liked your question.
Saving my life right now?
My four month old’s smile. Yes, walks outside! Green tea with jasmine. Big girls asking how they can help me. Husband’s prayers. Being ok with 50, 60, or 70%.
Blessings on you in this time!

Yes! Facial cleansing towelettes are one of my go-to items, too. I use one every night before bed. (Because I am too lazy to wash my make-up off the old-fashioned way. I have issues …)

So easy to use one-handed 🙂
