I printed out these fruit and veggie placemats from Karen LeBillon’s site. She’s the author of French Kids Eat Everything (see my thoughts on the book here: How to Cure Picky Eating) and Getting To Yum (snagged recently for free from PaperBackSwap!).
Karen, like her French compatriots, are big on educating children on food and one of the ways they do this is by talking about food while eating. I’m hoping the placemats will help my 4 and 6-year olds stay at the table a little longer while we discuss which vegetables are in their supper (and get a little reading in too).
I enjoyed this post (with linked article and video) about homeschooling math. I’ll admit to having anxiety over this subject in the past. I have some kids who are excellent at math, and some who hate every bit of it. Either way, I know that people learn best when they’re highly motivated to learn, for their own reasons. I’ve seen that article many times over the years about the Sudbury School’s approach to math, and I believe it, precisely because I’ve seen how hard a child will work and study to learn something they want to know.
Erin at The Humbled Homemaker shared that Grove matches Amazon Prime’s prices – wow, I had no idea. All you have to do is send them the link to Amazon’s listing and they’ll price match (a benefit for VIP customers). Very cool. I shared in this post about cleaning with prettier things that Grove is offering another of their awesome freebies (both for new and existing customers). Check it out – you have until Sunday to take advantage.
I’m over Picky Pinchers talking about having fun with kids without busting the budget. When hubby and I were paying off debts, we still had recreation as a line item in the budget because we didn’t want our kids to suffer during that time. However, we’ve found that there’s often little connection between how much money we spend and the children’s enjoyment of a fun activity.

Have you seen this tweet that’s gone viral? A young man who wore a suit to meet his sister’s newborn. Because first impressions matter. We need more young people like this around!
