The other day I did something that looked a little like this:
Except, with a third trimester belly.
In a skirt.
On land.
Whilst holding a toddler flying through the air.
(Hey, there are limitations to what I can find with regards to stock photos!)
Here’s the setup.
Ruby loves to ride on her 3 wheeled tricycle. She doesn’t actually push the pedals, but her legs are long enough that she can easily scoot herself along and she’s quite adept at steering.
My back yard is sloped, and at the bottom of the hill there is a huge gully that’s full of growth – bushes, briars, fallen trees, trash, you name it – everything ends up there. You can’t really see what’s down there or how deep the ravine is, so we generally just avoid that area. There are also several large trees along the line of the “cliff”.
So Ruby is happily pushing herself along and feeling like a big girl. I have my hand on the back of her dress, gripping it just in case she starts picking up too much speed – which, at some point is exactly what happened. Still holding on to her dress, I break out into a RUN.
Images flashed in my mind of her crashing into a tree or landing in the gully – since I can’t exactly see what’s down there due to all the brush, I didn’t know if something would stop her or she would fall – or how far.
Before I knew it, I saw myself grab her off the trike. She was in the air then somehow on top of me – meantime I felt something hard hit me right around the rib cage and then I fell, hard on my butt/hip – hard enough to knock the wind out of me. I sat there clinging to her, stunned and unable to breathe for a moment.
She cried for about 5 seconds, mostly protesting the end of her fun. I inspected her and didn’t see any scratches or bruises. But me? My knees were skinned and bloodied at this point and a bruise was growing on my right hip and left arm. I’ve felt sore and stiff ever since.
I asked hubby to please hide that tricycle until we move, which is sooner rather than later. Largely due to the fact that our yard is a death trap for toddlers.
So what’s new and exciting with you?

Oh my! That picture gives me the willies just thinking about it! I have always been so afraid to have a bad fall as an adult because for some reason I imagine the damage will be so much worse than when I was a kid. Not sure why I have this fear, LOL. Take care of yourself!

OH MY WORD! Are you alright? So Ruby is not hurt…and is the baby alright? My goodness! I have had a few occupational hazards myself….not nearly as scary as this. When I was 8 mos. pregnant with Aidan, I had a nasty spill at a grocery store. I was taking Sebastian to the bathroom when I walked into a little bit of water on concrete flooring. I was not able to see my feet, therefore I walked right into this hazard. Next was like slow motion. In cartoons when someone pulls a rug out from someone and they go flying…this is what happened to me. However the weird thing is when my legs stopped flying they got stiff, and then I went into a 90 degree angle. Imagine someone snapping a doll’s torso all the way back. People around me came rushing and said that It was probably the weirdest thing they ever saw. Thankfully I was alright.
Stay safe….praying that you find a nice level yard in your new home!

Yikes! That sounds scary. We really are kind of clumsy when we’re pregnant and yes not being able to see your feet doesn’t help!
The thing that irritates me about this is I have had no back pain or hip pain or just general aches and pains this pregnancy – until now. I’m getting to the Chiropractor tomorrow.

Whoa! Yes, take care of your self Carrie. That whole account just scared the mess out of me just thinking about it. It gives me memories falling while pregnant with my last son not once but twice. Once in the house while cooking, walking away and tripping on some toys. The second time bringing in groceries at night when it started to rain outside.
I almost did a full split, I went to see the midwife and everything was fine. Still delivered at full term, however sometimes when he does certain things I wonder if it is because I fell twice with him.
Lol……..

The funniest thing I did while pregnant was burning my belly once when I was taking a pizza out of the oven. I had cooked it on one of those pizza stones, and it had preheated in the oven for a long time and was super hot. Apparently I didn’t know quite how big my belly was (this was with my 10 pound girl!), so I burned myself right below my belly button when I took the pizza out. Still have the scar!
