Josiah,
Mom is feeling better each day now. When I come see you, I feel happy and hopeful instead of overwhelmed with sadness. It’s still so hard leaving you behind each day, but the NICU staff are part healer, part grandma and part angel. You are being cared for with not just skill, but so much affection. I took the staff a box of Sublime Doughnuts and they had a ball with that.
Saturday when I came up to see you we had such a lovely time. Your doctor says your newest intestinal x-ray looked “3,000 times better”. Your dad and I are so relieved!
Your dad took your little-big sisters to the park while you and I cuddled. Then we went to Flying Biscuit Cafe, one of our favorite restaurants, for lunch. I wish you could have been there, but we have to wait another couple of months before we can take you home.
When I walked past the kitchen, I smelled you! I stopped for a minute and took several deep breaths, trying to figure out why the restaurant had your smell, then I figured it out: they were baking. You smell just like an Angel Biscuit! The next day I smelled you on my hands. You’re so tiny but you already have your baby smell and sweet baby breath.
Daddy goes to the hospital to do kangaroo care with you every night, but never takes a picture. Last night Caleb came with him and snapped a photo:
It’s so sweet to see you up against his man chest. He says you pull on his chest hairs. Ha! And I don’t mean to gross you out, but this picture of your dad is really hot!
