Five Frugal Things

five_frugal_things

  1. I typically buy Starbucks coffee at around $7 for a 12 ounce package, but recently I’ve been working on lowering my grocery spending. I decided to buy ALDI’s Fair Trade certified coffee at half that price. I like it! I buy 2 packages of coffee each week, so that’s an easy way to save $28 a month.
  2. I made homemade broth overnight in the slow cooker , easiest way ever. I used it for lentil soup with some of the chicken gleaned from the bones to boost the protein.
  3. I took the kids to play at a local splash fountain with some of their friends (free). We packed a snack.
  4. That morning I bought a box of cheap ice cream pops because I knew everyone would beg for an overpriced one at the bike rental shop. A box of 12 pops for 2 bucks is much cheaper than several at $2 each. Winning with frugality usually involves thinking ahead.
  5. My toddler wore a swim diaper. I bought an entire bag of these at a yard sale for a couple of bucks (instead of $9 new). Reusable swim diapers are more frugal and eco-friendly, but a lot of pools don’t allow them. After he wore it I threw it in the laundry pile to wash it. Did you know you can wash and reuse disposable swim diapers? Yes ma’am.
