It’s been a while since I posted either a recent frugal accomplishments post or a Friday flâner, so I decided to combine them today.
Recent Frugal Accomplishments
When we moved from one side of the county to another, I knew that the yard sales would be most excellent around here! Today’s yard sale haul didn’t disappoint.
I’m pickled tink that I bought my 2 year old’s entire casual summer wardrobe for $5.
6 pairs shorts + 5 short-sleeved shirts + 3 one piece outfits. He already has sandals and swimming trunks (and big boy undies for when potty training begins!), so he’s all set for the season.
I bought this lot from a fellow homeschooling mom. And she’s starting a TimberNook program in the area! Very excited about that.
I also grabbed a ton of arts and crafts supplies. My girls use these paints constantly.
And we rarely buy those Color Wonder pages and markers because they’re so pricey, but these were dirt cheap so I nabbed them. I like using these at our place of worship to keep little people still… with no risk of ruining their dress clothes.
I checked out movies from the library instead of buying them on Amazon. Yesterday we watched The Sound of Music. I thought the younger kids would be more into it, but the 16 and 14 year olds seemed to enjoy it the most. Favorite line from the movie:
“There’s seven children Maria.”
“Seven!?”
“But Maria you like children!”
“Yes I know, but SEVEN!?”
🙂
(Turns out the real von Trapp family had 10.) Christopher Plummer as Captain von Trapp is the hotness. Alpha male, indeed.
We inherited a new washer and dryer when we bought the house. The washer is a fancypants hybrid. It’s super water-efficient and eco-friendly. I love it! But, I can’t use my huge bag of Foca laundry detergent in it. (Foca isn’t recommended for HE and doesn’t dissolve well in my washer.)
No problem. It’s not going to waste! I’m discovering a dozen ways to use it around the house. (An entire post on that coming shortly…)
Friday flâner
If you’re new here, Friday flâner is where I post interesting things I find around the internet.

My 11 year old daughter has launched an Etsy shop: SadieBugDesign! She was intrigued by my interview with the Etsy shop owner last week and decided to start an Etsy business of her own. Right now she’s selling essential oil necklaces, but plans on adding more products soon. Please do me a favor and check it out!

This podcast on Art of Manliness (nope, not a man but I love this show) with nutrition and supplement expert from Examine.com was awesome. If you’re as frustrated as I used to be that the topic of nutrition is contradictory and confusing, listen. Examine.com is a wonderful site to help you find the truth about nutritional supplements – do they work, or are you just making expensive pee?

I had a good laugh at this wonderfully honest and hilarious post about KonMari for Homeschooling moms.
“Crayons: Gather all loose, blunted, and broken crayons from around the house… Bring up a fistful and gaze upon them, recalling to mind all the times you resolved to melt them into wonderful homemade crayon balls, blocks, and tapers. As you gaze, ask yourself the one crucial question: Does this spark guilt? Of course it does. Throw them all away.”
YES! All the broken crayons sitting in my house because someday I will melt them down and make something… never gonna happen. Out they go!

Enjoy your weekend, and don’t forget to flâner a little bit!

Love this! Especially the part about crayon guilt. The worst part is one time I actually did melt them all down and the new crayons didn’t even work! Ah well, live and learn.
