Linking up with Modern Mrs. Darcy’s Quick Lit
This was a good month for books. A couple of these were among the most enjoyable I’ve read all year.
State of Wonder by Ann Patchett – this is my first time reading Patchett, but it won’t be my last. This intriguing story follows a scientist deep into the Amazon where she is investigating the suspicious death of a colleague.
The Light of Paris by Eleanor Brown – hubby grabbed this for me at Barnes and Noble one day, knowing how much I love to read about women who run off to France to live their dreams. This one tells the story from two perspectives and begins when a woman in a subtly abusive marriage finds her grandmother’s diaries and dreams of creating her own French fantasy escape.
Love Your Life, Not Theirs by Rachel Cruze – this book by finance guru Dave Ramsey’s daughter focuses on how to develop contentment in this age of Pinterest perfection. When everyone else seems to be living an Instragram-worthy existence, how do you keep your eyes on your own financial goals? Great stuff here.
The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton – this one was my favorite. I love it when a good story is turned great by a wonderful ending. An adult daughter, in her mother’s final days, determines to find out the answers to a scene she witnessed decades earlier; that of her mother stabbing a man in the backyard of her childhood home.
