Pregnancy updates are pretty boring unless you’re a) related to the pregnant lady or b) pregnant yourself.
But, considering that the sum total of the two groups do represent a small portion of my readership, I’ll post an occasional belly shot and update.
But I promise, there will be no skin showing nor any sports bras, ever. I despise both of those things in pregnancy shots. Deal?
In popular pregnancy parlay, I’ve “popped”. I can tell because two people congratulated me yesterday. Which means I’ve gone even beyond the “is-she-or-isn’t-she” stage already.
This picture was taken at 9 weeks, when my shorts were just barely still buttoning.
Please ignore the fuzzy morning hair and questionable photography skills of the 8 year old.
And here’s a shot in the same shirt, taken moments ago.
The spandex in this top is begging for mercy people.
At the moment, my biggest challenge is managing the hangries. You know, that “I’m so hungry, if I don’t get something to eat NOW someone will get hurt!” feeling?
It comes upon me with no warning. One moment, I’m fine. The next, it’s as if someone has opened a secret door somewhere and all my blood sugar has ran out.
One thing that helps is to eat an entire MEAL immediately before going to bed (thankfully, I have not been plagued with heartburn this pregnancy. Not sure what I’m doing differently, but I’m grateful). Then, eating again when I wake to use the bathroom in the night. Then, hubby brings me a fried egg on toast, IN BED, in the morning. (Ain’t he sweet?!)
Then, eat every two hours all day.
Today I got my “13 weeks pregnant” email from one of those baby websites, and it stated that at this stage of the pregnancy, I only need an additional 300 calories a day.
I nearly spit my snack all over the screen. Maybe for ordinary pregnant mortals, but me, I’m gestating another Michael Phelps, if my appetite were any indication.
A company called Credible Cravings emailed to ask if I would like to try their nutrition bars for pregnant and nursing women. I usually delete these offers, but then I realized they were offering to send me FOOD so I said yes.
I’ve been eating these bars for a couple of days and I am impressed with them. I ordinarily don’t like any type of health food bar because most of them contain things I try to avoid: soy protein, milk powder, lots of sugar, etc.
I honestly like every ingredient in these things, even down to the olive oil and sprouted (sprouted!) grain. (The chocolate and oatmeal-cranberry are my favorite flavors.) You can pronounce everything in them, and they even contain probiotics. Which of course are important anytime, but especially during pregnancy.
Keeping these in my purse has been a bit of a lifesaver in managing my always-falling blood sugar.
Were you starving all the time in your first trimester too?
P.s. This is not a sponsored post, and the opinions are all mine. I’ve heard unicorns will show up in your backyard if you buy these bars using my affiliate link.

Yes! This time around I gained 52 crazy pounds, over 25 were in the first tri. Thankfully I’ve already lost 30 lb. Nursing helps :-).

yes it does! Running around after two toddlers also helps. 🙂

You look great!!! Always do. I missed you guys at convention. Was hoping to hug your neck. I just remember being sleepy most of the time with haylei. With hunter I had terrible heartburn and only gained 20 lbs because I couldn’t eat. Thankfully I got some Zantac towards the end of pregnancy and it worked great
