Post Pertussis

Did I make the font look scary enough?

Yesterday I took the kids to the Pediatrician. The 3 youngest had an appointment, and I wanted to make sure they were ok after our bout with pertussis.

These children have active Whooping Cough aka Pertussis: do they look like they’re dying?

I suspected that the baby had coughed herself a mild umbilical hernia, and I was correct. Her little belly button looked “funny”… it was sticking out a bit, and blue around it. The Doctor said it was harmless, just a cosmetic thing, and would heal on its own. She had lost several ounces, but the Doctor wasn’t worried. She has her appetite for solid food back now, and he said she would make up for lost time. She’s in the 75% percentile for height!

Several of us have lost weight. It looks fine on me, I needed to drop a few pounds. But Caleb and Ilana look a little gaunt.

But other than that, we have had no other complications of Whooping Cough. I am very thankful.

Everyone is still very fatigued however. The older kids willingly go to bed very early, and a few times last week they even napped in the middle of the day. I feel exhausted, as if I can’t catch up on sleep. But I know I will.

We were so very, very fortunate.

Life is finally back to normal, after a solid month of sickness.

Spring is bursting in bloom, and it’s gorgeous outside. I’m looking forward to writing about other topics again!

I’m so thankful you’re doing better, and can hopefully enjoy the rest of the spring. Sorry your littlest has a hernia though.

You might not even want to read about it now, but I did begin putting up my whooping cough journal. I tried to tell you when I finally got it up and for some reason was unable to get the comment to post. So now I’m trying again. 🙂 Here’s the link to the post:

Amber I did keep a journal but it was very brief. Mostly the ordeal was just exhausting. We’re still very tired!
