Natural Beauty Treatments

Why natural beauty treatments?

The average woman uses about twelve personal care products each day, and the average man uses six. In the process, we subject our bodies to hundreds of chemicals.

That’s not a problem, right?

Well, we’re not exactly sure.

Unlike foods and medications, the ingredients that go into cosmetics and personal care products are not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. There are no requirements for safety testing, and labeling requirements are not very strict.

Even chemicals that have been proven to cause health problems through studies are not required to be accompanied by warnings. Parabens are one example. And some dangerous chemicals, such as phtalates, are obscured under general terms such as “fragrance.”

So what is a health-conscious lady to do?

Natural Beauty Treatments

We could abandon beauty treatments altogether and go totally natural, but most of us are not willing to do that. We want to look our best. Fortunately, we don’t have compromise health and safety in the name of beauty.

There are natural beauty treatments that have been used for thousands of years by women all over the world.

If you prefer, you can find (with careful research and reading of labels) natural beauty products on the market. A number of companies have risen to the challenge of making effective beauty treatments without the use of preservatives, unnatural fragrances and other harmful substances.  I like some of these from ACURE, available from Grove.co

Some go a step further and create their own homemade beauty treatments.

Making your own natural beauty treatments is often much less expensive than buying them in a store. And it gives you complete control over what goes into them. It takes longer to create your own beauty concoctions than it does to pick them up off the shelves, but it’s fun. Some of the recipes make great gifts too, and typically use far less resources and create less waste.

    Carrie,

Just downloaded your Earthy Beauty Guide and wanted to say thank you. I look forward to seeing the recipes you will be posting. Is there any chance one might be an acne recipe? Just hopeful. I have considered purchasing that popular Proactin for my daughter but have been hesitant because of the chemicals. She is struggling very bad with acne, but I don’t want to torture her with all sorts of different treatments. Just the ones that come from a reliable source!
    Thank you, Carrie

Thanks for such an informative blog. I am dragging around so badly, dependent on caffeine and need to get back to natural living.

I’m pretty sure there is Michelle, but my recommendation would be to take her to a Naturopath who can help figure out why the imbalance is taking place. 🙂 My first guess would be cleaning up the gut – strong probiotics and maybe even a detox diet for a week or so. I’m not an expert in this area so I would talk to a health care practitioner I trusted for advice.

    I can’t wait to see tomorrow’s post!

I’m currently using honey as a face cleanser and once in a while I will add baking soda to it for that grainy exfoliating feel.

As I get older, my skin seems to be getting more sensitive and less oily, so I’ve recently started using extra virgin olive oil. And I use witch hazel sometimes too.

I’d love to find out what else I could be using and what I can combine.

I’ve read through the series thus far and find it very interesting. Once I determine my skin type I may just try my hand at making some of the products.

    Interesting content.

Just wanted to share some information that may help busy professionals caught up with work and who have less time to maintain their nails. You can try out gel nails which are now becoming a hot favorite as they are natural looking even without nail tips and the best way for nail enhancement. Also, if you are allergic to those strong smelling chemicals which you can experience with acrylic nails, then you should use gel nails as these are odorless.

However, when you are planning on gel nail application, make sure you approach a nail salon or a nail artist who is well versed with gel nails and is properly trained and mastered in gel applications. This will save you from problems that can arise with improper gel nail applications.

I use to think ‘better living through chemistry’ was the optimal way but I’ve taken a second look. Chemicals do work but for many there can be negative side effects. Natural, like you say, gives you so much more control and it’s a lot cheaper to boot and there are so many great natural beauty products on the market. Great post, thanks.

Along with the natural beauty treatments, it is important to wind with natural hand and foot care, by regular cleaning and polishing. Drink several glasses of water daily to flush away toxins and impurities from your body.
