I enjoyed this article by Cait Flanders about her two-year shopping ban.
(She also had a list of exceptions as I do with my No-Spend Summer. She allowed herself to purchase truly needed things or replacements for worn-out items.)
“Similar to the way tracking my spending helped me become more aware of where my money was going, and tracking how I felt after eating helped me figure out how certain foods affected me, tracking all my purchases was just another way to learn more about myself as a consumer and figure out how much I need…”
Speaking of tracking, EveryDollar now has an app for Android. I use the free version to track every penny I spend and to create my budget. I love this tool. My husband uses the paid version, since he has far more transactions coming out of his account than I do. The paid version adds the transactions automatically, whereas I have to enter mine manually.
