What I’m Reading – February 2013

Linking up to Modern Mrs. Darcy’s Twitterature of super quick book reviews

Little Women – I reread this classic that I loved as a teen, and this time was struck by Marmee March’s wisdom for modern moms.

Charlotte Mason’s Original Homeschooling Series – so much wisdom for parenting and homeschooling, and a gem at only .99 for Kindle!

Bebe Day by Day: 100 Keys to French Parenting – This book is a bullet point list of the best wisdom from Bringing Up Bebe. My only complaint? It was too short.

Predictably Irrational – A fascinating look at why we often don’t act in our own best interests, and the myriads of ways our surroundings influence our decisions. I found this book to be more “readable” than many in the genre of behavioral economics.

Navy SEALS Training Guide: Mental Toughness – I’m not sure why, but I have a bit of a fascination with the military. What can a mom learn from a Navy SEAL? Plenty… loved this ebook and took plenty of notes.

Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH – This was our book of choice for our evening family read aloud. Great story of courage and loyalty. (And no, I don’t believe the rats were Fascists!)

  1. Oooo, I love these suggestions! My 7yo has been reading Little Women, and I’ve been thinking about reading it so we can talk about it together. I didn’t know about Bébé Day by Day–can I read that without reading the original? And I’ve seen quite a bit of buzz about Predictably Irrational and am intrigued.

    Thanks for sharing!

Bebe Day by Day might leave you wanting more if you hadn’t read Bringing Up Bebe… I’d say it would make a great baby shower gift to whet a mom’s appetite, or for someone who isn’t a big reader.
