Why natural beauty treatments?
The average woman uses about twelve personal care products each day, and the average man uses six. In the process, we subject our bodies to hundreds of chemicals.
That’s not a problem, right?
Well, we’re not exactly sure.
Unlike foods and medications, the ingredients that go into cosmetics and personal care products are not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. There are no requirements for safety testing, and labeling requirements are not very strict.
Even chemicals that have been proven to cause health problems through studies are not required to be accompanied by warnings. Parabens are one example. And some dangerous chemicals, such as phtalates, are obscured under general terms such as “fragrance.”
So what is a health-conscious lady to do?
Natural Beauty Treatments
We could abandon beauty treatments altogether and go totally natural, but most of us are not willing to do that. We want to look our best. Fortunately, we don’t have compromise health and safety in the name of beauty.
There are natural beauty treatments that have been used for thousands of years by women all over the world.
If you prefer, you can find (with careful research and reading of labels) natural beauty products on the market. A number of companies have risen to the challenge of making effective beauty treatments without the use of preservatives, unnatural fragrances and other harmful substances. I like some of these from ACURE, available from Grove.co
Some go a step further and create their own homemade beauty treatments.
Making your own natural beauty treatments is often much less expensive than buying them in a store. And it gives you complete control over what goes into them. It takes longer to create your own beauty concoctions than it does to pick them up off the shelves, but it’s fun. Some of the recipes make great gifts too, and typically use far less resources and create less waste.
